Grants and funding
There are thousands of grant givers in the UK; local and national government, trusts and charities, agencies such as the National Lottery and Sport England. It is impossible for any one organisation to keep track of them, especially when for many people, the main task is not finding the money but delivering services, support and activities to their community.
So to make it easier to identify potential sources of funding for your project, you can search the funding database, provided through this website, to look for the most suitable sources of financial support for your purpose. Of course, finding the right source of money is only the first step. You still have to write a good application and persuade the funder that you are in a position to deliver the project's outcomes.
Another local guide on funding has been produced by the Rural Community Council (Leicestershire and Rutland) "Funding Information Guide 2006 - 2007" You can download this document here.
Unfortunately most grants are tied to specific uses and rarely allow you to raise money for administration and basic running costs. Therefore you may need to have a specific project in mind. The groups and organisations that have the most success with getting grants are those that prepare their funding idea really well.
