Writing Letters

In some ways the most difficult applications to make to funders and grant givers are those where you are asked just to write a letter.  This gives you free rein to structure what you write to suit yourself and include the information that you want to rather than responding to what you are being asked.  Even then however, you may be given some guidance by the grant giver.

In general it is small trusts that ask for a letter rather than the completion of an application form so often you will be applying for relatively small amounts of money in these cases.

However, it is probably still worth producing a "Project Application" that includes all the answers that you developed in Step 1.  This can then be sent together with a short covering letter thanking them for taking time to consider your application.

Be careful though to apply in the way that they say.  If they ask for no more than three pages - don't send them any more than that!
