Project Timetable
The funder will want to know the proposed timetable for the project or activity. Not least they will want to make sure that they can make a decision regarding your proposal that will allow you to undertake the project in the timescale that you need. This does not need to detail every little action but to provide an overall sense of the timetable. This is sometimes referred to in application forms as defining the milestones for the project. Milestones are what they sound like; the staging posts on the way to completing the project as a whole.
Developing a timetable is not necessarily difficult. It is often very straightforward for a simple project and may only require a few lines of text to say we will start on this date and finish on this date. However for more complex projects or activities it could be useful to set out the timetable in a table. How much you breakdown the time of the activity will depend on what makes sense.
The first step though is to list all the key activities that you intend to carry out during your project. You will need to do this to prepare a project description. In a table you can put all the activities down the left hand column then breakdown the rest of the columns in evenly spaced chunks of time for the remainder of the project. This may be in weeks, months or quarters as appropriate. Then you can mark in on the table when things need to be completed. There are many advantages of doing this. First the funder may want to know but more importantly this will be a reminder for you of how you planned the project, and when you need to make sure things happen.
The timetable below has been made up based on developing a simple community arts event. In this example the project is to develop a performance by young people as part of a village festival. Please be aware that this is not intended to be a definitive project timetable for a performance project just a rough version as an example!
