Why is your project needed?

Many funders want to know "why what is being proposed is being proposed".  It is not often good enough to say "well I think it is a good idea" as opposed to being able to say that there are;

"150 unemployed young men in the proposed project area, there is research that suggests that that there is a high level of demand from this group to fix cars, there is also evidence that there is above average car crime - particularly joy riding and a high level of complaints about anti-social behaviour. Our Motor Project will improve the skills of this group make them more employable and reduce local motoring and antisocial behaviour complaints".

Being clear about the evidence is also part of being clear about who benefits.  You may be doing a Motor Project but why have you chosen this rather than a crochet circle?  Is there any evidence to justify your view?

Essentially funders want to be convinced of three things:

Is there any evidence of need?

Is there any evidence that your project will work?

Is there really a need for a subsidy? (In other words why do you need a grant?)
