Matched Funding
Some funders are only happy to support a project or activity if there is "matched funding". For instance the funder might say that they will provide up to 50% of the project costs and will expect the remainder to be "matched" from another source.
In some cases where the funding is coming from a government department or from a European Union source they will also insist that the matched funding does not come from another government department or scheme.
There are many ways that matched funding can be found.
Other funders
Perhaps the most obvious is from another grant fund. However, the difficulty with this is that the different funders you are trying to match funding with make decisions on different timescales and one funder will not make a decision until another funder has made theirs - a "catch 22".
Other fundraising activities
Another source of matched funding is from your own fund raising efforts say from running fetes and raffles or sponsored events and even from membership fees.
Sponsorship
Getting the support of a commercial sponsor. This could be from a large corporation or from your local businesses depending on the scale of the project.
Help in Kind
By getting some of the activities provided free - such as getting free professional support, or donations of goods and equipment.
